In the past 20 years, China has undergone remarkable economic change and advancement. In light of the change, China has a very special role to play in the world today as the most populous and one of the fastest growing nations. It has a special responsibility to develop volunteerism and promote environmental and humanitarian causes.
AFS is proud to be offering a brand new Community Service Program for Australian volunteers to China. By joining this program, you will be volunteering for one of our well established not-for-profit partners in Shanghai and making a real contribution to a community in need!
Program Highlights
1) For participants 18-29 years of age, March and September departures are available
2) 6 months in duration with a local host family
3) 40 hours of Chinese language training
4) Designation of a Chinese mentor and friends to help with daily life and cultural adjustments

AFS is also offering a brand new Chinese Cooking Program departing in 2009! Participants will travel to China where, upon their arrival, they will attend Mandarin classes. Following this, they will be enrolled in a vocational school to study Chinese cookery. Programs run for either one year ($7,500) or six months ($6,900) and provide participants with the chance to learn about the intricacies of Chinese cooking from Chinese chefs. With the so many Western dishes being influenced by Chinese cuisine, this program provides you with the unique opportunity to learn from the best!
