25/5/2007 - Aussie AFSer meets with the Prime Minister of Malaysia

On 16 May in Jorhor Bahru, Malaysia, AFS student Monica Tilbrook from Queensland was given a once in a life time opportunity to meet with the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Monica was involved in the “Teachers Day” celebration held at Jorhor’s Persada Convention Centre. AFS Malaysia utilised this excellent opportunity to promote AFS to a wider audience. Along with another AFS student Bieta from Belgium, the girls were dressed in their Malaysian school uniforms. Not only have they attracted teachers’ attention, their booth was also visited by the Minister of Education of Malaysia, Datuk Hishammuddiner and the Prime Minister’s Special Officers.

Monica and Bieta later got to meet with the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi. The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to give Monica a local Malay Name ” Mina” which means ‘Faithful’.
