6/12/2006 - 2006 AFS Photographic Competition Winners Announced!
Over the years we have been sent some fantastic photos, photos that capture the true essence of the whole AFS experience – images that should be shared in our quest to fulfill our mission of a more just and peaceful world.
It is for this very reason that we decided to launch the inaugural 2006 AFS “Visions of Exchange” Photographic Competition. The competition was launched at the beginning of the year with over 60 scholarship winners encouraged to submit their favourite photos during the course of their AFS exchange. They were provided with some fairly broad categories to help focus their lenses, and these included Fun, Education, Family, Challenge, Culture and New Horizons.
With the added incentive of some wonderful prizes from Sony Australia we were inundated with great images! These photos were then judged with the top 24, including the winners of each category and the overall winner, being exhibited in Melbourne and Sydney in the State Parliament buildings.
The primary aim of the exhibitions was to thank our Government, Corporate & Community sponsors. We also invited a wide cross section of guests including Ambassadors, Consul Generals, AFS volunteers, school principals, teachers, scholars, alumni and some key government, public service and media contacts.
Evening viewings were held over two nights, with guests dropping in to view the mounted photos, enjoy a festive glass of bubbles and some canapés. The exhibitions were a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended!
