Before you start applying online, it is important that you understand what is involved in the application process. The whole selection can be lengthy and the earlier you submit your application, the quicker we guarantee a place for you!
What is involved in the application process?
Please note that the application process for the Experience Japan/JENESYS scholarship program may differ to the details below and does not involve payment of an application fee. For those interested in this program, please create a User Account and follow the instructions to complete your Online Application.
The Online Application process consists of two parts. The First Part includes:
• Personal Information
• Placement Information
• Parental Authorisation Form (for high school program applicants)
• Scholarship Form – only for scholarship applicants
Once you submit the first part of the application, you will be required to pay a non-refundable application fee of AUD$88.
Now it’s the perfect time to get in touch with your local AFS group, who will help you to prepare for your experience.
Upon receiving this fee, you will be given access to the Final Part of the application which includes:
• Letter of Introduction
• Medical Certificate
• Parent’s Statement (for high school program applicants)
• Academic Record (for high school program applicants)
• Curriculum Vitae (for 18+ applicants)
You will also be:
√ invited to a camp in your state
√ contacted by you local volunteer for an interview

1 You will need to set up an User Account, please go to the Sign Up page to create an ID.
2 If you have already signed up or are working on your application, please go to the AFS Online Application website. This service is available to you 24/7, which means you can log on anytime to edit your application before submission.
We will communicate with you during the process through emails, so please provide us with the correct email address when you sign up an AFS account. Please check your emails on a regular basis for updates and suggestions from AFS, you might also want to check your junk mail filter configuration and make sure all emails from afs.org are able to reach you.
