AFS is pleased to announce that BlueScope Steel is sponsoring four students to take up the challenge to live and study overseas for one year starting in 2009.
How Many Scholarships to Where?
• One full year scholarship to be awarded to a student from Australia or New Zealand for an exchange program to China, Malaysia, Thailand, or the USA.
• One full year international scholarship to be awarded to a student in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand or Vietnam for an exchange program to Australia or the USA.
• One full year international scholarship to be awarded to a student in China for an exchange program to Australia or the USA.
• One full year international scholarship to be awarded to a student in Canada, Mexico or the USA for an exchange program to Australia, China, Malaysia or Thailand.
Who can apply?
Candidates must meet the AFS application guidelines
For Australia / NZ Applicants:
• Any BlueScope Steel Australia employee’s child attending secondary school and in Year 9, 10, 11 or 12 at the time of application, or
• Any BlueScope Steel New Zealand employee’s child who is aged 14 to 17 at the time of application
For Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand or Vietnam applicants:
• Any BlueScope Steel Indonesia employee’s child aged 15-17 years and in 1st grade of Senior High School at the time of application, or
• Any BlueScope Steel Thailand employee’s child aged 14.6-17 years at the time of application, or
• Any BlueScope Steel Malaysia employee’s child aged 15-18 years at the time of application
• Any BlueScope Steel Vietnam employee’s child aged 15-18 years at the time of application
For Canada, China, Mexico and USA applicants:
Contact AFS Australia for confirmation of eligibility.
The scholarships will be entirely funded by BlueScope Steel and will cover:
√ Return travel from your home right to the door of your host family
√ Orientation and enrichment activities during the stay
√ Medical costs incurred during the visit, except for pre-existing conditions, dental and eye care

BlueScope Steel has been working in partnership with AFS since 2001 and before then, as part of BHP Billiton, since 1987.
During this time seventy eight students have been sponsored to take up the challenge of living and studying overseas for one year.
