AFS students, applicants and volunteer leaders at the discovery and selection camp held near Canberra in May 2008.
Welcome to AFS Canberra
The AFS Canberra local group boundary extends beyond the ACT. It also covers the adjoining NSW “Capital country” region and extends south to Cooma, Tumut and on to Wagga Wagga, helping students and families interested in an exchange or in hosting an overseas student or volunteer.
AFS Canberra is a vibrant, active group comprising dedicated volunteers who have been on exchange themselves or are parents of current and former exchange students or have hosted overseas exchange students. All volunteers recognise the benefits that come from student exchange programs such as AFS and are willing to tell you about them and help you on your journey to have an uncommon experience of a lifetime.
AFS Canberra usually meets monthly, and a local family hosts an informal get-together so everyone can to enjoy a chat and hear about our students’ experiences overseas and to answer any questions applicants might have about the AFS programs. Meetings are open to all students interested in AFS, current applicants and their families, current hosted students, returnees, hosting and sending families and friends.
