The AFS Central Coast Group covers the Gosford and Wyong local government areas that are between Sydney and Newcastle.
The group is an active and enthusiastic team of volunteers who have been on exchange themselves or are parents of current and former exchange students or past host parents. We enjoy providing support to new students and families and helping them make their dreams a reality.
We meet monthly to touch base with our students and host families and hear about their current activities as well as the adventures of our students overseas or recently returned. Meetings are a great opportunity to meet students and families who have participated in AFS and find out more about the how to make it happen and what support and help is available.
Regular social events are organised as well as weekend trips and day excursions for our hosted students.
This year we have had 11 hosted students on the Coast, 4 students overseas, 18 students and 1 teacher participating in the JENESYS short exchange program to Japan and 8 students applying to go overseas in 2009. We are offering one partial scholarship to assist one of these students to go in 2009 and are hopeful that several others will be winners of full and partial scholarships through AFS and company sponsorships.
BBQs at local hardware stores help us fundraise for scholarships and support for students applying for AFS, provide support to host families and hosted students and cover the out of pocket expenses of our volunteers.
The group is a friendly and welcome team and all people interested in helping support students involved in intercultural exchanges are welcome to join us. We have many small jobs to be done that help support our students and the wonderful host families that volunteer to have a student share their home.

Our regular meetings will take place on the last Monday of the month at Ourimbah Hall, Bill Sohier Park, Ken Cook Way, Ourimbah at 7:30pm. However, there will be no meeting in September, November or December 2008. For more details, please contact Kathy Smith.
