Local Scholarship

AFS local scholarships have been running for decades and in that time hundreds of students have been awarded with financial support to realise their dream of becoming AFSers.

In 2009 a departing student from the Central Coast local group in NSW will benefit from a $2,000 scholarship. This scholarship is valid for a Semester or Year High School Program. Email Debrah for more details.

North Perth Hills local group is offering a local applicant a $2,500 scholarship towards the cost of an AFS program! Email Helen Montaldo for more details.

Who is eligible?
An AFS applicant who:
√ is attending secondary school and in Year 9-12 at the time of application
√ is successful in AFS selection
√ is active in their local AFS groups
√ meets the AFS application guidelines

AFS Local Groups’ Roles
The scholarships will be generated by fundraising activities by the local AFS groups and are awarded in the form of a reduction of the participation fee, which covers:

√ Return travel from your home right to the door of your host family
√ Orientation and enrichment activities during the stay
√ Medical costs incurred during the visit, except for pre-existing conditions, dental and eye care

AFS’s Role
AFS has total responsibility for the selection of the AFS Local Scholarship recipients
AFS will match the students carefully with host families, arrange school placements and assist the students in selecting appropriate courses of study
√ Local AFS volunteer committees and AFS Head Office staff will monitor the students’ experiences and provide any necessary support and counselling
