AFS is pleased to announce that QR Limited is once again offering two full year high school exchange scholarships to any AFS country worldwide departing in 2009!
The scholarships will be entirely funded by QR Limited and will cover:
√ Return travel from your home right to the door of your host family
√ Orientation and enrichment activities during the stay
√ Medical costs incurred during the visit, except for pre-existing conditions, dental and eye care
Who is eligible?
Any child or grandchild of a QR Limited employee in Australia who:
√ is attending secondary school and in Year 9-12 at the time of application
√ meets the AFS application guidelines

QR Limited has been working in partnership with AFS since 1995. During this time thirty two students have been sponsored 32 students to take up the challenge of living and studying overseas for one year.
THE 2008 JUSTIN MCDONALD SCHOLARSHIP WILL LAUNCH IN LATE 2008
This scholarship was established to commemorate Justin who died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 33. During his battle with cancer, Justin organised an very successful fundraiser with the help of his wife, daughter and Network Access workmates for his charity, the Queensland Institute of Medical Research.
Justin’s friends and colleagues continue to celebrate his inspirational fight against pancreatic cancer and the impact he had on their lives.
The scholarship provides up to $30,000.00 assistance to the relative of a permanent employee of QR who is undertaking full-time study at a University or TAFE institute.

THE VINCE O’ROURKE TERTIARY SCHOLARSHIP
To mark the retirement of former Chief Executive Vince O’Rourke after 10 years’ service to QR, the QR Board established a perpetual tertiary scholarship in his name.
Under the program, QR is offering employees’ children and grandchildren who have completed year twelve or its equivalent and are enrolled in a full-time tertiary course of study, the financial assistance in completing their qualifications.
In 2008 QR will award one scholarship to the child or grandchild of an employee to enable the undertaking of full-time study in the field of Information Technology, Environmental Science, Business, Engineering or Hospitality at a University or TAFE Institute in Queensland.
The Vince O’Rourke Scholarship Program will financially contribute to the successful Scholar’s studies and offer the opportunity for vocational employment within QR, with a view to enhancing the Scholar’s educational and career opportunities.
The scholarship will offer a contribution of up to $30,000.00 over the duration of the specific degree to cover fees, books, study materials, compulsory field work, student union fees etc.
